Guy Trebay New York Times Brooklyn Flea DJ Record Fair

I chatted with Guy Trebay during the weekend I was at the Brooklyn Flea for the super DJ record fair. He is a regular there and covers it often for the Times. He is a witty, wry and intelligent observer of today's social mores and trends.

I had brought down a lot of stuff from the 80's music, art, fashion, and cultural scenes. Basically old clothes, old records, ACT UP and AREA tee shirts, club invites, Sex Pistols (see older post) promo posters, and more.

It was a great weekend - a perfect storm of sunny warm weather, good energy and people with money to spend and real interest in the items offered. A flea vendor's nirvana.

The following week Guy Trebay published a story about the record fair in his "Gimlet Eye" column in the NY Times on Thursdays. (link from post heading above)

He was kind enough to mention me and even kinder to find some relevance, humor, and a sympathetic insight into my life as it is now - and as it was then.

I was flattered.

Halloween Weekend / "Brooklyn Flea" and Gifted Holiday Market

I've been trying to get ahead of the rain, which is becoming another standard weekend event this fall, by moving indoors whenever possible.

At the Tincan Trading Post upstate - I will be having an indoor tag sale of Holiday Kitchen and Tablewares along with the usual array of great furniture, objects and household goods.

Lots of cool stuff for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner table settings and decorative objects.

That's this SUNDAY !!!

NOVEMBER 1, 2009  -  11 am to 4 pm

Location;

C MEYER RD.

AT THE INTERSECTION OF  RT. 97 / RT. 116

COCHECTON, NY 12726

---------------------------------------------------------------

I'll probably do 2 days at the Brooklyn Flea the following week.

11/7 - Saturday in Ft. Greene.

11/8 - Sunday under the Brooklyn Bridge.

--------------------------------------------------------

Then for 3 days over Thanksgiving weekend I'll have a booth at the Brooklyn Flea's "Gifted Holiday Market" running through Christmas.

I am only doing the opening weekend with a special collection of Holiday gift items.

FINDING GREAT STUFF

It always amazes me what's out there.

Yesterday it was a pair of Edison Mazda light bulbs (c. 1920 -30) both in exquisite wire bulb cages. Each wire cage is unique. One bulb still has a label.

And I wasn't even shopping - just stopped by a fellow trader's to say hi!

I had been craving these type bulb cages recently.

I love the combination of hand work and early ready made materials for utilitarian uses.

Nice.
