Guy Trebay New York Times Brooklyn Flea DJ Record Fair

I chatted with Guy Trebay during the weekend I was at the Brooklyn Flea for the super DJ record fair. He is a regular there and covers it often for the Times. He is a witty, wry and intelligent observer of today's social mores and trends.

I had brought down a lot of stuff from the 80's music, art, fashion, and cultural scenes. Basically old clothes, old records, ACT UP and AREA tee shirts, club invites, Sex Pistols (see older post) promo posters, and more.

It was a great weekend - a perfect storm of sunny warm weather, good energy and people with money to spend and real interest in the items offered. A flea vendor's nirvana.

The following week Guy Trebay published a story about the record fair in his "Gimlet Eye" column in the NY Times on Thursdays. (link from post heading above)

He was kind enough to mention me and even kinder to find some relevance, humor, and a sympathetic insight into my life as it is now - and as it was then.

I was flattered.

GIFTED BROOKLYN FLEA CHRISTMAS TIME

I'll be a vendor at this year's GIFTED Christmas holiday market put on by the guys at Brooklyn Flea.

This year's market will run for 9 days from December 15 - 23, 2010.

I'll have a selection of unique primitive and vintage items, art, jewelry, rare cook books, hand made products and a few surprises - for you to consider as gifts for you're loved ones.

I'll post some pics of items I plan to bring every few days in the upcoming weeks.

OK - finally something to write about.
I'm starting to pull together merchandise for the Brooklyn Flea "SUPER DJ" Record sale on September 19th at One Hanson Place in Brooklyn. The Sunday location for the Brooklyn Flea.

This is my first show at this venue which is a landmarked bank space.

I did pretty good this past spring selling off some of my rare vinyl from the 60's - 70's and 80's at the Fort Greene location - so I'm excited to bring more records and ephemera to this expo.

While digging through my archives I'm finding some cool shit that I intend to show.

All sorts of music related Fashion, Graphics, Tickets, Posters, etc.

These posters were backstage in the dressing rooms for the Sex Pistols last gig - on their fateful US tour and their final show ever.

I was there too. Here's what I remember.

A member of the Avengers (the opening band) spray painted 'pretty vacant' over them.
They were stapled to the wall in a over lapping composition - so the graffiti tags are skewed.
I have 3 of the 4 posters that were there. I just ripped them off the wall on my way out.
The posters are promo material from Warner Bros. using the classic Jamie Reid graphics he designed for the Pistols record sleeves.

I also have a heavily silk screened tee shirt from the tour with the Jamie Reid album graphics.

I'll post more stuff as I find it.

Hi all. I'll spare you the gory details of this long cold winter, and jump to the news about happily surviving it and getting back into the market this season to show and sell our newest treasures.

In addition to the original Trading Post in our 1952 Spartan and 1964 Yellowstone travel trailers.
We have several new "Tincan Trading Outposts" this year to tell you about.

These Outposts are in established antique shops.
This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase special items and rare finds.
I am very lucky to have certain friends that helped make this happen.

The first spot is in Callicoon NY - the grooviest town on the Delaware river and home to the Tractor Parade each June, a farmer's market all summer, great restaurants and shops and several smart antique and vintage stores, cheese / wine shops, and a Deco movie theater, and a bowling alley - both in vintage Quonset huts. This is the town used in the movie "Transamerica". So come visit. Have fun.

Our second spot is over on the Hudson in Kingston NY. I've always been interested in this town because it has some incredible houses that come up on real estate searches. It is also relevant and historic on many levels. I'm looking forward to being there more and getting to know it.

"Gifted" - Brooklyn Flea - Deer Deer Me

I hope to see you all this Thanksgiving weekend at the "Gifted" pop-up shop in the old Tower Video space at Lafayette and Fourth St. NYC.

I am only doing the first weekend (Nov. 27, 28, 29) and that is probably my last big show before Christmas unless I get a second wind and book into an indoor weekend market.

I have lots of things I wouldn't mind seeing under my own tree this year, and will try to post some pics before I leave.

I also have a small selection of "craft" items and goodies made by some of my local neighbors. Mostly ladies in their 70's and 80's.

Let's say "Grannie made it" - would describe the overall look and feel.
I'll have a range of hand mades from "felt and bakelight button decorated purses" to Rice Krispie Xmas trees dipped in home made chocolate. yummy.

I love doing the fleas - but honestly it is hard work - and too cold.

So.

I pretty much sold out everything I had listed - so I am going to add more items.
